The rear HVAC system is behind the panel in the very back on the right.

Are your meaning the engine compartment, or rear of the vehicle. Excuse my ignorance.

Thanks for the link to the pictures. I would have never found that on my own.

I will still have to be able to positively identify where the problem source is, but I'm suspecting the front heater core now as the times I was smelling antifreeze it was coming from the front, but I couldn't find any leaks.

The Ex has a single a/c compressor even with dual front/rear heat/a/c.
There is a special vacuum actuated valve on the heater hose (right next to a/c compressor up top). In MAX a/c mode this valve blocks hot water from reaching the heater cores, thus increasing the cooling effectiveness since the heater isn't as hot.
Water pump impeller, (intermittent) frozen a/c compressor, faulty wire to fan could all cause overheating... but an intermittent problem is tougher.

I was just watching a Youtube video about the vacuum system and one common almost common denominator is engaging 4wheel drive. I don't remember ever engaging 4 wheel drive on Friday, but most definitely in CO and on Saturday. I will try this out tomorrow while driving around town. I know the vacuum system controls the heater valve, but how would this cause the truck temps to rise. I get how it would mess up the A/C and heat, but not how it would effect engine coolant temps upward
