anyone run without cooling fan?

i was just curious about something..... anyone ever remove their cooling fan entirely? up where i live we have average high temps in the mid-upper 50's mostly.. sometimes in the 60's, and rarely in the 70's. so, running without a cooling fan would definately improve mpg's, and eliminate the annoying noise i hear all the time with it spinning..... but would the engine get to an overheating point? i would think that the water pump would circulate enough water to maintain temps up here. i have an edge unit so i could keep and accurate eye on the temps, but just wanted to see what anyone thought about it.

Can't answer your question, but don't forget your tranny cooler is up in front too. Don't know how that would fare with reduced airflow...I guess it wouldn't be much better than a sweltering 100F+ day in the sun while hauling a full load...

I've read the fan clutches these days are pretty efficient and don't generated much more engine load than necessary.

It sort of depends on how much slow speed driving or idling you do. Fans don't do much beyond 25 mph, but they are a key cooling factor below. Remember for your cooling system to function properly, you need both water flow and air flow. So, no fan is a risky idea. Even for a cold temp climate like yours up in Alaska. E-fans might be an option, if you really want to remove that stocker, but not sure they are worth the cost.

FYI, My stock fan fell apart after the clutch came apart.I was in the snow at the time mid day temp was about 40 degrees no more than 15 mins of driving the engine went to limp mode. The fan is needed and even without the fan locked up it pulls a lot of air at idle.

svt2205 is right. if you dont want the fan, get e-fans. the airflow always has to be there. i wouldnt recommend running without a fan, even if the temps are cold.
