Can not recall how I originally installed the glove box, decided to check with member's who are familiar with the installation for advice. I removed the heater motor thinking I could slide the box into place; nope, fearful of damaging the new box decided not to force it. Please tell me I 'do not have to remove the heater box'. Any suggestions/comment appreciated!!
I removed mine in my 1966 out the back after taking off just the heater blower motor. It was tight, but it's an original and I did not mess it up taking it out. Custom Cab with fresh-air heater in my case.
Having said that, I have not tried to put it back in yet.
What year is your truck and does your new glovebox have the step in the back or not? Some of the reproductions I've seen do have the step. It's for clearance with the housing or motor. Just wanted to double check.
Gets the conversation rolling anyway. I can show the look of my original in a picture if it would help to compare to what you have.
It's the 65 F100 with the 390. In that I am basically lazy, inpatient and faced with the dilemma of whether to remove the heater box, I decided to try the least labor intensive approach and inserted the box thru the glove door opening. The new box has been setting in the truck for the past few days where the humidity has been very high; consequently, the box was about as malleable as a loft of bread and I gingerly installed the box, maneuvered the it into place and it assumed its original shape. Looks good!
Damaged the original in removing but it was pretty much spindled and mutilated to begin with. Installed the glove box in the other 65 with the 302 some 25-30 years ago, it's still looks fine; hopefully, I will not be faced with this task again??
