I've read a number of posts about removing the headlight switch ****, but am having trouble anyway. I removed the two 6-inch long dash trim pieces on each side of the steering wheel and removed the 2 screws behind the trim pieces. I pulled out the headlight switch as far as it will go and pulled the dash panel as far forward as possible. I still cannot even see the headlight shaft release button never mind pushing it in to release the **** assembly.
Has anyone accessed this release switch? How did you get access to it? Did you access it from above the panel, below the panel or from the left side of the panel? I've already cracked the top edge of the dash panel pulling it forward at this point.
The shaft doesn't come out, just the **** comes off of the shaft. On the inner most part of the **** should be a slot. There should be a small metal tab in that slot. I don't remember if you push or pull on that metal tab to release the **** from the shaft. Hope this works.
I know the pics are of my 2004 Mustang, however the light switch is the same as the 1990's trucks up to about 1996/97 (depending on the truck when Ford changed over to new body styling)
If you rotate your switch handle so far and pull it out fully there is a slot with a "clip" that you can depress with a flat head (or lift) and pull the **** off, just besure to puch the switch into the OFF position so you don't drain the battery if you plan to have the **** off a long time, If your just replacing it then just push the new on and push it back in and done...
