2007 Explorer Limited Traction Control Problems

I can't figure this one out. The traction control light will start flashing and the engine will lose all power, it slows to 30-40 mph, then goes again and the light goes out. This is intermittent and seems to happen the most when the engine is cold. This morning it wouldn't go over 20 mph and finally warmed up and went well enough to get it home. There is no check engine light or codes saved. This is my wifes driver, and it completely stopped one day and threw a check engine light. She turned it off and restarted and the light went away and the car would go again. I've read Ford had bad throttle bodies, (TPS) but I hate to just change it as it is $350. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Is the engine actually losing power or is the traction control applying brakes to some of the wheels?

I believe it's losing power, gas pedal is floored and no RPM's. The vehicle doesn't slow like brakes are being applied, just coasts down. Enigine never dies, but just before the light comes on it starts bucking, like it has a missfire. I had a mechanic friend put a diagnostic tool on it and he said all of the coils are firing properly, as he thought it may be one starting to go bad.

Before I got to the last sentence of the OP I was thinking, "I've heard about electronic throttle bodies causing this symptom".... That's all I've got right now.
