I am randomly getting a P1744 code. happens like once a week or longer and seems to happen at highway speeds. I have auto enginuity but i don't know a lot about tranny's or diagnostics on them. any suggestions on where to start?
It appears to be a code for excessive TC slippage, and from what I read there are some other things that can be tied to the code.
I'm thinking a trip to a reputable trans shop or dealer is in your future.
How often to you drop the fluid and change the external filter?
Perhaps Mark can weigh in on the issue, he can offer some expert advice on this.
Bumping an old thread. Looking for some help. Tow/haul starting blinking on me today. I am getting the P1744 code. Acting weird, not positive shifts like normal. Only after the light came on. Does the tranny go into some kind of "limp" mode? 2005 F350. 4X4. P1744 - Torque Converter Clutch Solenoid Circuit Performance, could this be as easy as a cheap solenoid?

I'm went through this with my recently rebuilt trans. Start with the TCC solenoid and see if that fixes it. I would also upgrade to the late 2008 trans pan and filter. It filters SO much better than the stock mesh filter.
If not, you're looking at either a bad torque converter or the trans pump is on its way out. I went through this with my transmission and replacing the pump seems to have fixed the problem. I'll find out tomorrow when I go to pick up the shop.
Do not use the Sonnax oversized parts to fix the problem. These parts are designed to salvage and repair worn pump bodies. They used this on my pump and it caused more problems than it solved.
