Trying to pull my steering wheel so I can replace the turn signal switch on my 1977 f250.
I took off the horn cap.
I removed the center nut.
I attached the wheel puller (NAPA) with 2 bolts.
I turned/cranked down on the center bolt on the puller but nothing wants to come off...
What am I doing wrong?
Spray some penetrant into the splines and install the puller. Make sure the side bolts are even and then slowly turn the center bolt to apply the pulling force.
If it doesn't release, using both hands squarely slap the steering wheel towards you. Wearing a face shield might be a good idea depending on how hard you slap it.
You might also try putting some pressure on it with the puller and hit the bolt that is in the center that actually pulls the wheel. Dont beat the snot out of it,just give it a good hit with a hammer.
I have had great success in junk yards just backing the nut out to the end of the threads, grabbing both sides of the wheel and pulling hard as the wife taps the nut gently with a ratchet.
I've never used a puller yet on any of these trucks. I always back the nut off till its flush the smack ot with a hammer while pulling up on the wheel. You don't have to hit hard just hit it square.
I have had to give a nice sharp RAP on the end of the puller once or twice before,,, once you have puller tight, just a nice solid tap, worked every time for me!
