I ordered the lmc cup holder that inserts where the ashtray goes. The ashtray is removed and the holder inserted. I was surprised to find that the part which inserts right into the ashtray slides, is like 10" long! It also need about 60-70 lbs of pressure to shove the ... thing in there.
The description says nothing about cutting the insert, but surely that would have to be done to keep the insert from interfering with wiring. It would also need some sanding on the insert to make it slide in a bit easier.
No a little lube shouldn't hurt anything. You could always clean it off real good in the even of a return. I was going to order one of these for my truck but it says it only works with column shift trucks. Would you happen to know anybody with a floor shift truck that you could try it in? I'm curious about how bad it interferes with the shifter.
Mine I fits okay . Somewhat hard to insert . It is thought out . Leaves room to use radio and cigarette lighter ( mine has been changed over to an outlet ).I might put a strut behind the dash for my own satisfaction .
If it interferes with the shifter of the ZF I'm putting in, I'll send the shifter out and have it made into the 'short shift' system I see offered for $200.
I used one of those for a while. It was kinda handy. Mine was vinyl covered particle board. When it broke, it took a while to find where I saved the ash tray.
Moral to the story, remember where you stash the ash tray!
