Questions concerning SYNC software update

I have a software update on a thumb drive ready to install, but I have some questions:
Instructions state that after a successful update I will need to pair my phone again. Does this mean that all phones that have ever been connected are deleted? Are contacts deleted?
I was considering performing a master reset to remove all previous phones and contact lists that may be in the system. Should I perform the reset prior to performing the software update? Does a master reset also delete any updates, or is it safe to perform the software update, then the master reset, then pair the phone?

Thanks.

OK, came across this:
If you experience problems with SYNC®, you can perform a master reset. This process erases all stored data, such as call history, text message information, and previously paired phones, and restores your system to factory settings.

Which answers most of my questions. Though I'm still not sure if "factory settings" means software updates are rolled back, or if they are immune.

I'm pretty sure it'll roll it back to the original factory version 4.0.2. I'm running 4.4. Upgrade was pretty painless.

I have the only the basic Sync software. Mine was painless... Sorry, I didn't look at your signature.

I did the update. After it was complete all my paired phones were deleted.
The update took over 30 minutes to complete and during that time there was no radio, no gps and I couldn't control the heat control. Luckily I had set the heat to manual just before the update so atleast I had some warm air coming in.
There were several times I wondered if the update failed because my display was just black with a slight glow.

Hi wrvond,

A master reset does not reset/revert the current software version; therefore, it is safe to perform before or after the installation. It is not a requirement to delete the other paired devices. They will be deleted during the software installation.

Holler if you have any other questions.
