I just replaced my relay on top engine as mine was not working. After installing a new one i,m still not getting power across the large studs.I am not getting ground to the back small stud on the relay,i,m am getting power to the front small stud. After manualy applying groung manually from battery i can hear relay engage.Where do i look next for cause of no ground at the small wire? Thanks in advance if anyone can help.Have checked all fuses and not sure what is going on.
thanks any help is appreciated. If the small wire up front is controlled by a timer and shuts off after engine is running and temp is warm could i just run a jumper ground to back stud on relay. When the front stud power shuts down then the glow plugs would no longer be energized correct? Also i installed a GPR110 from napa if it matters.
Theoretically yes.. The front ( hot) stud should have a constant +12V to it. The relay is energized by the PCM introducing a ground to the relay. I have seen a switch connected to ground on one side and the other to the small ground post on the relay to make it work.
If your sure it's wired correctly.........jump the large terms with a screwdriver. If it works, it's in your harness.

Both small wires are red one has blk heat shrink with yellow stripe.I was wondering if i put them back right also. The yellow stripe one is on the back small stud.
It doesn't matter which small wire goes on which small terminal, nor which large wire goes on which large terminal. Also, see my previous post, #7.
The engine was fairly warm.I was wondering the same thing all so.It,s plenty cold now outside about 25F. and will fire it up at 4:30 am.Will let you guys know.I think this was the problem now that you mention it.
The answer to your question in post 4 is no. One large post is constant 12v. The small 12v wire is keyed 12v and will always be on when the key is on regardless of the WTS light. As mentioned earlier, the small ground wire is controlled by the PCM (engine temp, timer, etc) and is the only thing that switches the glow plug relay off and on. IF you ground that small post on the relay as you described, it will always be on with the key on until the relay dies or something worse happens.
