I have a 1993 Bronco with a broken ignition rod. I have removed the cylinder locking mechanisim and the ignition switch but each piece seems to be stuck. The ignition rod is plastic and seems to be separated at the wheel tilt mechanisim. Has anyone tried to remove and replace this item? Thanks for any help!!!
If yours has the plastic geared actuator lever that links with the steering lock block, also made of plastic then the pin is likely fallen out of the geared piece. It generally requires removal of the steering columb and placed in a vise and disassebled. You will have to remove the steering wheel, airbag if equipped, clock spring, tilt mechanism, the springs, spacers, shift lever and tube assembly and remove the locking pins pressed into the columb body. I recommend you have a professional do this, as it is VERY easy to damage the shaft bearings in the lock tube portion of the columb. Dont try to reinstall the pin, it will just fall out again. Purchase a new geared lever.
If yours was the aluminum steering lock actuator that would be easily done on the vehicle.
