CII Power Steering Pump help

Last winter I replaced my single return CII pump with a dual return CII pump to accommodate my new hydroboost brakes. It took a while but I got the pump to stop whining, and it was fine, for a while......
Over the summer, the pump started whining again, and got progressively worse till the end of the season. I checked for leaks, found none, checked for bubbles, found none. The store where I bought the pump gave me a free replacement pump. As I'm installing it, I noticed the fitting on the side of the pump where the pressure line hooks up. Back when I first installed the dual return pump, I had taken the fitting out of the side of the original pump, and put it into the new pump. Now I'm wondering if these fittings are different for a reason? I just thought they were to adapt to different years/ models of trucks?

Is there supposed to be a specific fitting here if you have hydroboost brakes too?
Sorry about the long post.

This is the fitting I'm talking about, just ignore the "leaking" caption.

Depending where the leak is coming from determines what needs to be replaced.

My bad, that is the only picture I have of the fitting. The fitting is not leaking, I'm just wondering if I might not have the correct fitting installed. I clarified the picture.

Nope. Not specific to hydroboost. In 1978 the fitting part number was D8AZ3D654A for cars and trucks. Which was replaced by E1AZ3D654A. Replaced by E1AZ3D654B. Replaced by E5LY3D654A. In one of these part number changes I remember the fittings looked different. I don't remember which part number change it was. But in any case, that's prolly why you see two different fittings. Now here's a funny thing. Translating E5LY this means 1985 Lincoln Mark and L/M responsible for the part. "AZ" equals crown Vic and "LY" equaled Mark. If I look it up for a 1985 Mark it shows:
E5LY3D654A.........with handling suspension.
E5DZ3D654A..........w/o handling suspension. (Baby LTD not Crown Vic part number)
1985 Marks did have hydroboost. Both 302 gas and 2.4L diesel. Yes, diesel.

But once I read your post the 1st thing that came to mind is the P/S pressure valve just inside of this fitting we are talking about. Maybe yours is not working correct or is the wrong one. For that same 1985 Mark Ford shows these valves:
E1AZ3A561A.........w/o handling package.
E6TZ3A561A.........with handling package. Notice all of a sudden a "truck" part number popped up. Coingky dink? Me thinks not.

Thanks for the info. I wondered the same thing about the valve and spring behind this fitting. However I did not change the valve and spring from the old pump to the new one. I left that alone. I had ordered that pump for a 90's F350.

Ultraranger gave a very good explanation on how to prime the pump with a drill in an earlier post. I re-read it today, but my rad is in the way of putting a drill on the pump. I can spin the pump by hand until the fluid level quits dropping, but will this be enough to bleed/ prime the system. What about cracking open the fittings at the end of the lines? Would that help get air out of the system?
Although I've read that it shouldn't matter, I've always wondered if my hydroboost unit being installed upside down may be causing me a problem?

1985 Marks (VII) did have hydroboost. Both 302 gas and 2.4L diesel. Yes, diesel.
Trivia time ...in case you're ever on Jeopardy and this comes up.

In 1984 and 1985, Ford offered a 2.4L turbo diesel in the Lincoln Mk VIIs. The engine was manufactured by BMW (you know, the people that build "The ultimate driving machine"). This particular Mk VII received a large radiator.

For 1993, Ford SVT was working on the design of the '93 Cobra Mustang and the '93 Cobra R (Race) Mustang. There were only 107 Cobra R's built for 1993 and all were red --no radio, no A/C, no back seat, etc.

The '93 SVT Cobra R's were the first to get the large 13" 5-lug front rotors with PBR aluminum twin piston front calipers along with 11-5/8" ventilated 5-lug rear rotors with Varga single piston rear calipers. --these brake components would become standard issue on the later '94-'04 SN95 Cobras, '01 Bullitt Mustangs and the '03/'04 Mach 1s.

The large radiators that had been used on the '84/'85 2.4L turbo diesel Mk VIIs was also the same radiator used on the '93 Cobra R's.

....perhaps I should have noted I used my (angle) drill motor to prime my PS pump with.

JEFFAFA, I know this is a lot to ask, but are you able to post pictures of the different valves? That way I can see which one mine looks like.

Hey Murc. You might check out this thread. ND and I were helping out another gentleman and talking about these valves. He had a different problem than you but some info you may be interested in.

Howdy. I've got a '71 F250 that I installed a 7.3 IDI into years ago. It's been a great, reliable combo, but recently I decided to put some work into it and fix some bugs. One being the power steering was always too easy and has almost no road feel at all. Does anyone know if the CII Ford pump can be modified to reduce pressure and improve road feel or if there's a fluid I can use to achieve this? Maybe some of you with EFI or diesel conversions on 2wd trucks like mine have run into this?
