Mounted another yesterday. Busted open an old cracked tire on a widowmaker to get at the tube and flap. I really am a cheapskate.... This one I painted 'new caterpillar yellow', more yellow, less orange than the '84 case skidsteer paint. Then when it was still tacky, sprayed it with matte chalky clear that the Martha Stewart crowd uses on antiques and faux paint jobs. Dulled it right up. This one turned out to be a real beyotch getting the ring back on. Some flaps are just too wide and the beads don't collapse down enough for the ring to start easily. Well, it nicked up the paint pretty good, but I think it just may look period correct on either of my battered tonners as is. The inside of the rims are clean, primed and painted for a future generation to enjoy, regardless of eventual color.
