inertia fuel pump cutoff switch missing - need to replace?

In my 01 Excursion:

Strangely, where the inertia fuel pump cutoff switch should be, there is a broken plastic mount on its screw that used to hold it to the car body. The switch is nowhere in sight. The Chilton's manual shows a wire going to it from one of the wire plugs there, but I don't see any cut or broken wires.

Is that OK or should I work to find it or replace it if it really is missing?

Does the truck run fine? Then forget about it

I believe the purpose of that switch is to shut off the fuel pump if the vehicle is hit really hard or gets upside down.
Now, call me over-protective, but I would like to NOT have fuel pouring out of the vehicle onto me if the truck was on it's lid.
I'd replace the relay.

I'd be interested to know why someone would take it out. I am with Walt. That is a necessary safety feature. You never know what the future holds...

I have worked DOZENS of crashes over the years where those fuel cutoff switches did their jobs. I would want to keep mine.

Keep mine, yes. Go to Ford and buy a replacement, no. Yes they stop the fuel pump from running when they are tripped but I have also removed one myself. I took mine out of my 01 Focus because I would Rally it off road and the bumps would trigger it and kill the car. If I had unlimited money I would have everything 100% OEM on my truck and nothing missing but I don't so if I found something missing I would make due.

I have to disagree this time Jon. If it's a safety feature that can mean the difference between me, my wife, or most importantly - the kids from further harm... I'll break the bank to take care of it.

Well with kids riding along that totally changes things. My truck isn't for hauling a family around in, much less a ton of driving. If I was putting hundreds of miles on my rig and had lots of passengers (especially with little feet) I would make sure it was installed and operational.

Why make an exception for this? What about your Wife and Dogs? Are they not the same? I wouldn't limit it to mileage, distance or strength a child has.

It isn't just a feature for you, it is for your passengers and everyone around you should something happen.
