Today I noticed I broke my steering stabilizer shock. It it broke at the connection on the piston arm where it connects to the steering linkage and the piston shaft is bent. Guess it happened when I hit a rock Thursday. I am thinking of purchasing the Rancho 9000 adjustable shock as a replacement, any advice? I do not do much off road driving and what I do is very moderate. This is for a 04 Excursion, 4x4, 6.0PSD, with 285 all terrain tires, no lift.
I haven't been able to find a Bilstein in my area and don't have the time to wait for one to come in if I were to order online. I'll have to put on the Rancho and go from there. I have been driving around with the broken one for the last few days and won't be able to put it on till Tuesday, weather in the Dallas/Fort Worth area has been bad this weekend.
Thanks for all of the advice, maybe I'll put a Bilstein on when I do a bunch of modifications this spring.
Are you buying the 9000 adjustable shock meant for use on the suspension and planning on using it as a steering dapper ? Or are you buying a rancho 9000 series steering dampener ?
If you are buying the 9000 steering dampener then I do not think they are adjustable like the wheel shocks are. I only point this out so if you were thinking that you could change the valving to dial it in to your needs. Also, as I have never cut open a 9000 adjustable shock I can't say for sure if it will function correctly on its side.
