Hello All, new to forum. Thanks in advance for helping. I have a 99 Ranger that my mechanic says has a bad 1-2 accumulator spring causing it to shift hard. It appears it shouldn't be too hard to change it out but I am not even a weekend mechanic. But my buddy is and thinks we can make the change ourselves and save me $1,200.00. But can anyone help me know more of what we're doing? Any videos somewhere on the web? Or a play by play explanation? Any special tools I need? Thanks so much for whatever thoughts you have.
Welcome to FTE.
Use your ELM scantool to have it scan the tranny controller/computer for trouble codes & post All code Number clues it finds, or all codes you have that caused your mechanic to come to the conclusion he did. EDIT: Which tranny are we talking about???

I don't have any access to a computer to scan the transmission. I will need help figuring out which tranny it is...1999 automatic Ranger Sport if that tells you anything.
Might be worth reviewing this thread about the inexpensive ELM scantool. It's saved me several times its $25 cost over the past 2 years trouble shooting the family vehicle fleet. https://www.ford-trucks.com/forums/1...-scantool.html
Look on the vehicle certification sticker on the drivers side body door frame for the tranny code for the tranny the vehicle was shipped with from the factory & post it up.
Look along the label bottom line under TR = T = 4R44E tranny.
Your Owner Manual will have info on how to decipher this sticker & the VIN # info.
If you don't have a manual, you can down load one at no cost, by opening the "owner manual download" link by scrolling down to the Miscellaneous section of this forums "Tech Info" thread atop the forum index page.
This site also has a VIN decoder that you can find by looking in the "Tools" tab atop this page in the black background bar, just under the FTE logo.
