Auto tranny shifting issues

My reverse seems to be going, or gone. I could not get the truck to move the other day after sitting in a slightly downward facing parking spot. After racing the engine a few times and letting it sit for about another 5 minutes, is inched its way out of the spot in reverse. When I got it home, I decided to back it into a space first and that seemed to work with no problems and I haven't tried it since.
I did have the fluid changed a few months ago and it has not seemed to have had any trouble until now.
The trans is a rebuilt one from about 5 years ago.
From reading your posts, it could be the reverse solenoid?
The problem has just sprung up with no indication of any problem prior.
Can you help?

Robinhood - I realize you are fairly new to FTE, but you should have started a new thread with your post. You are requesting help for an automatic transmission while the Original Poster (OP) is seeking help on a 5 speed manual tranny. Unless someone happens to read thru OP's entire post and replies, they will not see your post.

Just a helpful suggestion from a long time FTE user. By the way, welcome to FTE.

Ok, had the forum Mod move this post to the Ranger & B-Series thread index page as a new thread, so he could get replys just for his auto tranny problem, as the other thread was about manual tranny woes.

Anyway @ the OP, since the problem came about when you were on a slope, have you checked the tranny fluid level, with the tranny at operating temp, say after a 10 mile out & back trip, after shifting into All gears, including R, long enough for each gear to engage & all that with the vehicle on level ground, at warm idle & in "P", or "N"????

If the tranny fluid level & condition of the fluid is ok, when its acting out, do you have a flashing OD light???? If so, you likely have trouble codes set in the tranny computer/controller, so have a trusted tranny shop scan the tranny computer/controller for trouble codes & post All code Numbers, as they can offer up good trouble shooting clues.

If you don't want to pay to have that done & you have an ELM scantool, or the like, or know someone who does, that can access the tranny controller/computer, have it scan all of the vehicles controllers for trouble codes & post All code Numbers. Let us know what you find.

The transmission fluid should be between the holes on the dipstick when cold.

The transmission fluid should be on the hatched area when warm.

Do not overfill, if you do overfill, drain and start over.

Thanks Pawpaw. I didn't know we as ordinary users of FTE could do with a posting what you have done with this one. How do you do it? This is a good tool to know about when helping users who are new to FTE.
