I pulled my old panels and replaced with what LMC offers. Does not even compare and after about a year seeing my old ones laying next to the truck and hearing them scream that they want back in I need help finding way to refurbish them. The front face vinyl is worn and wood trim accent around outside beaten (inwould like to make black). The tougher part is the back side where the connectors to door go. 1/2 of them broken. Panels are blue. Any thoughts?
With regards to attaching them, mine were mostly broken as well, but I was doing my truck on the cheap, so I repainted them using plastic paint from Lowe's and attached them with screws thru the panel. What made mine look OK with the screws is that I bought matching screws/covers from pro-dec.com. You can see a pic of how it turned out on post #7 of this thread:
There is some good paint out there to repaint them and yes use the paint for plastic.
As far as the broken back pieces you can take an old JY panel and make some repair pieces. JB weld or 2 part epoxy, then use the longer GM push pins and some 2" wide velcro as back up. That way no screws will be required.
Ck out my overhaul of the panels I wanted to use. Open heart surgery....I dermeled replacements to fit and overlaid the good ones.
Also make a metal reinforcement for the tab that attaches to the finger cub bracket, mine is white thin sheet metal. And notch the panel, so the 2 bolt heads do not hold the panel off. Finger cups will cove the notches, and get some metal finger cups, LMC $13.00 ? well worth it.
Like it was said before us a paint for plastic . I got some from LMC and it worked real good , went from tan to black . i recommend to get the cleaner to use first after all repairs , then put 4 to 6 light coats on . If done carefully you will not loose the original texture on the panels . Use the same cleaner and paint on the dash pad will make it look like new. JIM
