55 Running boards

On the underside of the stock running boards are two long pieces of metal at odd angles....I assume for strengthening.

Can anyone tell me how to get them separated from the running board without ruining them? I need the two good ones from a bad running board to put them on a replacement (good) running board that has had them removed somehow. (not very clearly stated but I know you guys all speak "Fordlish"

I think that they are spot welded so just get a spot weld bit and drill them from the bottom side you should be able to see the welds on the back

Those pieces can be easily fabricated by a sheet metal shop. If you have one local to you I would strongly encourage you to look into new pieces, you won't regret it.

Thank you Roy and Charlie. I tried in vain to get the bad one off without bending it and think I would have the same trouble getting the useable one off so will take your advice and go to a fab shop.

Happy New Year to all of you

If you have any trouble finding a shop let me know, I can have Direct Sheetmetal here in El Cajon make them up for you.

I wonder if you could just use square steel tubing? A 1"sq tube would stay hidden behind the turned down edge and you could choose a wall thickness to get the strength you need.

If you have access to a shop that sells Yamaha 4 wheel atv's the crates have pieces that are almost identical to the pieces you need, it's what I used on mine for the panel.

Hi guys,
I got sidetracked with the new business year so didn't follow up to thank all of you for your advice on the running board brackets. I did get the bracket off the useless board but still need one more. I will take John's suggestion and go to the Yamaha dealer....my son is one!
