I have a set of running boards for my 48.They are rusted in the center some but
I think they can be cut out and patched. I could use smooth steel and replace the center.Just wondering what other folks have done.Any ideas that look and work good?Do not want to spend $500.00 for a new set.
THANKS

It depends on what area you need to repair, but generally speaking, all our sheet metal is repairable. The ribbed areas make running board repair a bit tougher. Steve Jensen (ssj7kids) fixed his '53 boards and it turned out nicely.
Thanks guys. I was going to cut out the ribbed area and put in flat steel.Just make smooth running boards. How do I get hold of Bebops?I never heard of them.

I kinda had the same idea, but its one of the ONLY non-smooth areas on the whole body. Definitely want to weld mounting studs underneath if you go smooth so there are no bolt heads sticking out.
I was going to replace the ribbed sections of mine with checkerplate, and got pretty far down the road doing it. (May finish them later) Here's a pic that inspired me. It only takes about $30 worth of 1/8" checkerplate to do both sides.
I like the repair if its not too much work, then the Rhino liner like Huntsman did ,I would consider taping off everything but the ribs..for traction. Also there was a thread a couple of days ago, TRUXX I think, who put another set of running board-to-frame brackets on to make the whole running board stronger. Has anyone used the new tubular hangers from Mid-50??
