TYPICAL E4OD PROBLEMS. NEED ADVICE.
So I have recently acquired a 1994 F150 auto truck with 203xxx miles. I bought it as a project truck and about the only thing I haven't replaced yet is the transmission and diffs. But I do have some worries about the transmission. I believe its been rebuilt at some point. Occasionaly it will slam into reverse and drive then shift hard through the gears almost as if it has a shift kit. But it doesn't do it all the time. It will do if for a few days then go away for a while then come back. Ive looked through several threads but I haven't seen anyone else saying it does it just occasionally. Other than that transmission seems to act fine. Any ideas on where to start? Fluid level is correct with a recent fluid and filter change.

Check for trouble codes, if the transmission has a code stored it may be in a "failsafe" mode which will make the shifts and engagements firm. Fix the code and the symptom should go away.

When the VSS failed it went into limp mode and I know what that feels like and it feels different. Unless there are different versions of limp mode.
