I have a '64 F-250 that a PO installed a 390 into. I just had the radiator repaired and need to replace the cap. The parts store sold me an 13lb rated solid top cap.
The old cap is 7lb rated and has the locking top. I believe the engine is from '72-'74. The truck does have a now non-working ac system. What rating should my rad cap be?
Thanks.

Sounds like the previous owner put a light cap on it so it would not blow out the old radiator. the 13# sounds about right.
The locking tab is just an option. Doesn't need to be there. Just allows you to depressurize without turning the cap. Once you have the cooling system working properly you won't need to worry about removing the cap.
Thanks for the replies. I may have to look for a Stant cap with the thermometer in it. That would also give a comparison to the temp gauge on the dash.
In the about 50 years that I have had a drivers license, I can't recall ever wanting to jump out pop the hood to see what the temp at my rad cap was.

Neither have I but I needed a cap, it was reasonable and a good conversation piece when the hood is open. It also is pretty accurate. I paid 20 bucks for it at Pep Boys.
