GVWR Laws

I'd like to know if anyone knows of any actual legal consequences related to the GWVR of a pickup?

Best I can find there are none, that there's no legal authority to ticket based on GVWR. Only thing that comes close is some say some states won't allow you to register over your GVWR but I can find no law and assume those are states where the GCWR isn't registered with the truck.

You may not have consequences unless you have an accident or break down that can be linked to overloading.

You can get cited for being over your registered weight. See rcw 46.16 a. 540

you can also get ticketed for being registered underweight.
here in New Jersey the MVC automatically registers pickups for 5,000 lbs unless you tell them otherwise.
so if you are not paying attention, you are overweight driving a F-250 diesel down the road empty.

In NY, I think it's called "driving out of class". For example: if I register my truck for 5000 pounds and if for what ever reason ...it gets weighed in at 8000 pounds, = a ticket.
