Gvwr?

Anyone know the curb weight and gross vehicle weight of a 1960 F100 with the style side bed and a V8(if that even matters)? For whatever reason, I need to know this for the registration. It actually asks for the Light Weight (Empty), the Gross Weight and the GVWR.

Thanks.

Those would be the Light weights; I would assume the Gross Weight 350 lbs above those (two passengers) and the GVWR to be maybe 1,000 lbs above Gross. In reality they probably differ a little but face it, this is just typical bureaucratic BS, you could tell them anything and they wouldn't know the difference. If they did know better they wouldn't be asking you!

This subject comes up about every three months. I'm not sure what state requires all this melarchy but it seems kind of irrelevant for a personal use vehicle (unless you state considers all trucks commercial and charges you accordingly).

I know the exact values were pulled up for this an dposted within the last 4 months here on FTE. The published values are located in the "Salesmans Manual" for each vehicle. I have the 51 book.

If you do an FTE search using "gross weights," and "curb weight" I am certain you will find your answer.

Good luck,
J!

Julies,
It sounds like you've been to Connecticut before...Yes, they DO consider it a commercial vehicle, all pickup trucks are here. Even if you check the box that says it won't be used for commercial purposes. You have to pay more "protection money" to get "combination" plates so you can drive on parkways, etc. It's all so silly.

Yep - been to Connecticut- Groton and New London - 1975 - beautiful!!!!!

One of the reasons they charge more for trucks and pick-up is because of their ability to transport more weight than the stock vehicle. They make the case that this imparts extra "stress and wear" on the roadways (which is true I guess but more limited in the pick-ups) and thus expense for maintenance. So, the owner pays more to cover those costs. I did a search on the weight subject for you - try this post, it's in the third reply down and more further on. Also, write to "Col Flashman" on FTE he will know as well:

I got the registration today and found (believe it or not) a helpful DMV worker who made it his business to look out for my best interests. The DMV website is vague about the states Antique plates and makes it sound like a hassle. Well, the others I spoke with there were also no help. Thankfully this guy pulled my number today and was able to explain the ins and outs and saved me a good chunk of change and whether it is commercial or not is no longer an issue. Thanks for the help.
