I finally had time to do some long overdue maintenance on my '04 F 350 6.0 diesel. Stopped at parts store and got filters and tranny fluid. Told partsman I needed Mercon SP fluid which is noted on dipstick and in manual. After checking several types,he gave me a case of fluid. Went home, drained fluid, changed internal and external filters, filled to proper level and ran truck in neutral for several minutes and rechecked. When throwing out empty jugs I read the bottle label and found that fluid was not SP compatable. Now the 8 qts I added is mixed with the remainder of the 17 qt total capacity. I drained the pan and lines near external filter. I'm questioning what to do next. What happens when these types are mixed? Can I run it for a while, then change pan fluid and filters or get a full flush? Do I dare drive it at all? Truck has 96,000 and no other issues. Any advice is appreciated.
Fluid was for dextron 11 and 111 or mercon only. What is basic diferances in fluid? Does it cause problems with seals or filters? Will change fluid now ,then how long shall go till next change ?
Yes, drained the pan fluid and will add correct fluid and run for a few minutes and repeat, but do u think that will be sufficient ?
