Wife's Mountaineer CD/Tape/AM/FM display went on then off a few times over a day or 2 and now its always blank. I had a Grand Marq that did that and I lived with it, but...
I've got 26 years in electronics but learned to leave car radios alone. Too tiny, cramped and fragile to fool with.
I see on e-bay, a guy advertising $45 + $15 S&H to fix any Ford radio. He specifically says dimming or lost displays. It must be common and easy.
this is a very common problem. happened to me also but i have a 98 exlporer. i put a system in my truck so i ended up switching out the head unit anyway. but if you are wanting to keep the head unit, check this thread out https://www.ford-trucks.com/forums/a...pic/74896.html the links there should help you out if you are wanting to repair it. i believe its something with the internal cooling of the head unit, just takes some re-soldering. if you are good with electronics then this should be no problem. to replace the head unit with an identical one is like $300-400. ridiculous.
Thanks for the reply drewpnuts... That was fast and very informative. Tomorrow, with my fast work printer, I will print out he good stuff or pay the $19.99. Looks good to me. I've got the tools and lots of soldering experience so I should be able to handle it without burning the wife's ride up (I hope..She is a mean one..). We'll see and thanks again....
