2006 radio blackout

Am I the only one experiencing radio display blackout? I have a 2006 Explorer Sport Trak. the radio display goes blank and stays blank. Do I have to replace the whole unit or is there a fix?

If the system continues to work fine, only the display stops displaying, it might be as simple of a fix as a bad solder joint or maybe an electrolytic capacitor that has failed. If you're good with some test equipment, hand tools, and a soldering iron it may be something you can fix. It may be something an electronics repair shop can fix (although those are becoming difficult to find). Otherwise you're looking at replacing the unit. Going aftermarket may be the most cost effective method if you opt to replace.

When it goes out, do you have any luck by adjusting the dash lights with the dimmer? Could be a weak connection or possibly a pin in the connector that is slightly pushed out of the socket.
