Dome light

My dome light on my 86 f150 stopped coming on with the door open . It only comes in with me turning the switch on. Any thoughts?

I would say bad door switch.
Does the other side door switch work if you open the door?
I don't know about Fords but you might be able to switch the switches left to right but some cars/trucks use 2 different switches left & right.

I wonder if a parts store would have a switch in the help section?

Not knowing the type you have some screw in and some snap in.
Between the 2 you can tell when you look at them. The screw type you screw in or out to adjust when it turns on/off.
I don't know how the other type is adjusted?

IIRC, my '85 is threaded, so yours should be the same. You do NOT adjust it by how far you thread it in; it would be loose if you did. You thread it in all the way, and the part that sticks out "self-adjusts" the first time you close the door.

Any switch I have seen from this era screws in but there's always a chance you have something different.

Yes, the switch on the pillar would be my first suspect... 9/16ths"/14mm socket.

The switches should be interchangeable with the RH side but not all trucks have a switch in the RH pillar, that was part of some optional lighting package.

You also might be able to just clean it, everything is readily accessible.
