transmission removal help please

I have a newly acquired 04 v6 with a known bad transmission. My question is would it be easier to pull the engine and transmission together out the top or just drop the transmission out the bottom?

Thanks,

Pat

What are your assets, capabilities, and tolerance to pain?

I have lots of tools and the know how to use them. I had a 2002 escape that I nursed to 274K until the K frame broke and it was so rusty that it wasn't worth fixing. As far as assets go I have the knowledge to do the job just looking at the easiest way to accomplish it without a lift. I have an engine hoist and tranny jack, I would just be on my back the entire time. As far as tolerances for pain.... I guess i'm going to find out how painful it can be to take a transmission out of one of these I guess... LOL

The transmission has been out of our 07 twice. Once while it was still under warranty and then when I was incapacitated due to surgery so I haven't (yet) had to do one on this platform. I've done one on one of my old Contours which is very similar. Did it on my back with the car on jack stands and it was painful. and I was 10 years younger than I am now..

A lift would be perfect but not many guys have one in their garage at home.

I don't know if the engine and transmission can easily come out the top.
