So my engine just blew yesterday due to a leaky injector. Heard a knocking noise drove it to the shop and right as I pulled into the garage I heard a pop which I believe was the timing chain.
Anyway, I want to pull the engine and swap in another one but can't seem to find any info on how to go about doing this. Doesn't look to be to hard....just time consuming. Is it possible to pull the engine with the trans attached? I am assuming my 2 ton engine lift should be enough for this engine. What kind of stand does everyone use for this? Any advice or help is greatly appreciated.
I have done this a bunch of times on small cars but this is my time time on a truck.
What year and how many miles? The injectors are covered by extended warranty for 10yrs 120k miles and any damage they may cause will be covered too. Shorebird nailed it the easiest way is to lift the cab. If you cant lift it then all the cowl parts have to come off and even then it will be a tight squeeze.
1. 2006 w/ 80k on it. I call Ford Dealer and Customer Service and they both told me no.
2. What are the Cowl Parts? Does any of the front clip come off? Thinking if i pull the Rad and AC Condenser would be much easier to get it out.
The cowl is the black plastic trim at the base of the windshield. The wiper arms have to come off too. Its a good idea to pull the rad and condenser not just for room but to prevent them from getting damaged.
Whoa.... just cuz they say no.....It is a known issue with 05 trucks...could it be possible that your truck was included in that bunch? My opinion is to gently stand on somebody's chest at the dealership until they fully understand your position. I may be out of line but replacing a engine that failed due to a known defect and not squeezing somebody's stones is not the way I would approach this. No offense intended but my money does not come that easy.
