Knuckle seals keep blowing out?

Early 04 CCLB SRW 300k miles

this is the 3rd time in 130k miles my knuckle seal went out on the pass side. This time it has been only 10k miles since the replacement. other side is still factory.
I can figure out why its happening so often, its kinda of important cause when it goes out you cant lock the hubs (as well as other things). Or it goes out while you are miles into the desert and need your 4wd but it quits because the knuckle seal is blown.

The only thing I can think of is there is supposed to be a second bearing near the end of the axle shaft that's not there. seems like its dropping and torquing against the seal causing to wear so quickly... Just a wild guess I have no Idea.
Im going to replace it now so its not flopping around in there, but I really need to figure this out. When I go out I go far and no 4wd means no way out.

thanks!
