Bung location for O² sensor

These are my headman headers, currently installed. I'm getting an O² sensor and am trying to make a plan as to where to place the bung.
As you can see the collector area where I'd typically want to put it is tiny.

I'm not exactly sure how the downnpipes all come together in there and am a little concerned about trying to tap a hole through and still maintain proper flow over the sensor.
Is it OK to place the bung back further on the tailpipe as close to the flange as possible or does anyone know if its fine to drill this collector?

I wouldn't drill the collector for the concerns you have, plus it lowers the header's value for other purposes down the line.

Instead, I'd make up a short collector adapter piece - maybe 3" long - with a bung in it and bolt it to the end of your headers. Then bolt the rest of your exhaust to that adapter.

If you made two you could move the sensor from one set to the other to measure all six cylinders.
