I tried searching before i posted this. But couldn't find a answer, i'm gona be puting on a set of headers on my truck soon. but before i do theres a couple things im not sure will work with headers, like the O2 sensor? theres only one and its in a little H pipe design before the first cat. now on a header do u just run one side or need to buy a splitter of some sort?? also another question, for all the brackets and that are bolted onto the stock manifold bolts rite now like the dip stick bracket and manifold bracket? theres also metal plates for removing the engine.. but i would just leave those off.. but as for the others did u guys just remove them also? and also wut brand of headers are available for our trucks? only header i found was flow tech so far. thanx
almost forgot to mention. i'm gona be doing long tubes and full custom duals

You only need 1 sensor in the passenger side collector. I had a fitting welded into the headers I bought, but many now come with this already installed. There is about a foot extra cable in the factory O2 sensor wiring between it's factory location and the junction up near the battery, so there's no need to cut and splice for the new sensor location. Just unwrap the wiring back a little and you'll find enough.

I left all these off. I kept the engine hoist brackets for future jobs. You may need to reshape the oil dipstick tube slightly to get it to bolt up with headers.

Summit has a selection available for these trucks. Ceramic coated or Stainless will outlast the painted versions by a wide margin.
thanx for the reply. i see u have flowtechs? how are they for leaks? i just ordered a set today there cheap but i got the painted.. theres a place up the street that does ceramic coating for cheaper then buying coated headers.. so mite do that. so i don't need O2 bungs in both headers? the local shop that did my exhuast said he couldn't do duals before the O2 sensor becuase it needed to read both cylinders? as long as it runs fine and thro no codes i'll just leave the 1 sensor also.
These Flowtechs have been great.. no leaks at all. Does the set you ordered come with O2 sensor fittings? If not be sure to test fit them so you get the sensor in an accessable location, and not pointed down at the ground or up into the frame. Using an engine block on a stand for the mockup is a good way to do it. My sensor sits horizontal pointed towards the center of the truck when installed on the motor, but this is not parallel with the head flange because the headers are not perfectly vertical when installed. Ideally the sensor has to go as near to the head as possible, while "seeing" as many cylinders as possible, hence the header collector location. DO NOT put it way back in a Y pipe just so it can see all cylinders. The EFI system on these trucks fires all injectors the same so it really doesn't matter how many cylinders the O2 sensor measures. Definitely get the headers coated.. they will only last a year in northern climates otherwise. You'll want to have them degreased and sand blasted before being coated.
Sounds good.. as long as the stock gaskets it comes with then i won't worry about buying the expensive ones. as for the O2 bungs.. no there isnt one in the header.. i'll problly pick up a bung and get the shop to weld it on. im gona do the headers myself then get the shop to build my duals. i picked the headers up today and still not sure if im gona get them coated.. i live in Vancouver canada.. we have very short winters.. couple months if any of snow.. mainly rains around here.. gona price it out first i guess.. i just don't wana get everything apart and coated then find that the headers don't fit or somthin. i guess the only hard part is gona be gettin those rusty manifold bolts off. thanx alot for the reply
The paint on the headers will evaporate the first time you fire the motor.. it's really not very good. At the very least have them degreased and sandblasted, and give them a few coats of VHT 1500 high heat paint, this stuff would last a season or 2 on our showmobile exhaust systems.
