Hi guys, it been a while since I posted a thread on this forum. But I had a question about some recent work that I got done on my truck. As you know I switched to a DUI dizzy but I also got a edelbrock carb which is off now a rebuilt holley 470 is in its place. When I took the carb off the mechanic put a four hole spacer in place of the open hole spacer that I had on there now I have the c series intake. I wanted to to know isn't that defeating the purpose of the open plenum?
The 4 hole spacer just adds less volume ( compared to an open plenum spacer ) to the plenum size when you run a spacer. You will be fine with 4 hole spacer.

Cool!!! Thanks Fordman for clearing that up for me!
I agree with Fordboy. My understanding of it is that you still have an open plenum if you have the offy C installed.
This is the offy dp, it separates the primary and secondary runners into two separate runners. Hence the dual plane non open plenum verses the open "C".
The 4 hole spacer maintains the separate runners on a dp when a spacer is needed for possible clearance and or heat issues.
On a " C" all the 4 hole spacer does in addition to aiding clearance and helping heat issues is change the total volume of the intake.
Some use a 4-hole spacer on an Offy C to reduce problems that might occur with the base of the carb exposed to the turbulence of the open plenum. The 4-hole spacer does no harm on an open plenum intake.

That is correct. In fact, on some Pro Stock big V8s there are 4-hole tubes under the Dominator carbs that extend down into the plenum that reportedly increase the signal at the carb. If you can increase the signal you can run a bigger carb and make more power.
