Expedition 4wd problems
I just picked up another 2000/-4.6 Expy with190k on it motor runs good, body great but tranny shifts into 4L 4H no problem, when I go to AWD I still feel the front axle engaged, also after checking the compass/temp light on overhead dash is out. Are they related? It feels as if there is restriction on the front axle, at high speed it peters out! Any and ALL help is APPRECIATED
Thanks,
Mitch
If I recall, the front axles on that generation is always engaged, regardless of the switch position.
If you think there is something wrong with the front axle, you might have to jack the front end, drop the front drive shaft and spin it by hand.
There could be a problem, but having driven quite a few 4.6 powered vehicles, including an f150 of that vintage, I feel pretty comfortable saying that high speeds aren't their strong suit. just something to consider.
good luck!
Post up some pics! we all like pics!
This is #2 2000 4.6 for me and the reason I got it was for fuel economy going back and forth to Maine with my Bird Dogs.
But the problem as of today is it seems that the AWD is fully engaged as if it was 4WD Hi or Lo.My plan tomorrow is to check fuses, vacuum leaks and then on
Ramps to check to see if shifter motor is ok,and to see if rod is engaging or disengaging, I can hear the switch working inside the dash when operated ad hear a noise (sometime) underneath. Start is fuse #23 as my Compass/Temp
Readout is not working .ANY HELP IS WELCOME AND THANK YOU!!!
Mitch
