Got a 650 4502 edelbrock carb right now it is on a cast iron 4v intake the four barrel butterflies seem to be contacting the intake ports I've got a risor 3/4 to 1" off the base is there a minimum height needed? and does the edelbrock performer 390 intake require the same risor got one of those to chuck on. Anyone ever get an edelbrock tuned in perfect I always get hesitation of the line unless I feather the throttle a little and have the revs goin before hammerin it? Would spark plugs cause this Ive gone with the listed models for these engines.
Thanks

I have the same problem with my edelbrock. It seems to hesitate a little around 1200-1400 when powering up. When I get the rpms up it runs good. Not sure what to do.
The throttle plates shouldn't be hitting anything. I have the 1406 and also had a big hesitation on wot from a stop, engine would die then come around. I personally felt a leaner airfuel mixture, about 1.5 turns out of the screws helped, while some people feel its the stepup springs.
Keep, in mind the front screws are for the idle circuit and supposedly don't affect mid and upper driving. It seems the edelbrock is too lean for my 390, i bought seem different metering rods but that didn't pan out for me.
side note, 1.75 turns on the screws offered best engine vacuum.
I'm using the Edel 650 AVS carb. Had to change to largest accelerator pump nozzles available to rid the bog off the line, and play with discharge rate for the pump linkage. I would suggest a 4 hole or 2 hole carb spacer, not a one hole spacer, as keeping the left and right sides seperated will help keep a strong vacuum signal to carb. I am using a 4 hole, 1 inch thick MR. gasket spacer that insulates the carb from all that heat of the aluminum intake. I would block off the carb heat riser passage with 0.015-0.020 stainless steel sheet glued onto head before installing intake gaskets. The aluminum intake soaks up all kinds of heat without the heat crossover. Use hot air pickup off the exhaust manifold if you need carb heat in winter.
I had an Edel performer on my 67 F250 4x4 and it worked well for a work truck. I was greedy for more go, so I switched to an Edel RPM. The two intake surfaces are not cut square to the world, the d--- thing is leaking water into oil, and vice verse. Wish I never would have bought it. I'll be selling the rpm and switching to a cast iron 428 CJ intake before summer.
