I was very disappointed that the LEDs are not an option with an XLT. With current rebates, buying a lariat or higher truck didn't make sense for me. Plus the 302A package on on XLT is pretty nice, especially when combined with a Sport pkg. I think it's odd that I have the blind spot LED tail lights, but standard halogen headlights.
I was ready to be disappointed with the standard headlights. I live in a rural area and really like good lighting. Guess what? The standard halogens are much better than I expected. If I bought this truck 8-10 years ago, I would say they were excellent.
Do, I still want LEDs? Yes I do, maybe the Raptor kit will come down in price as more of these trucks hit the market and drive down the price of the headlight units. But until then. I can live easily with the stockers.
I have the 2015 platinum with LED headlights. Just put a 2" leveling kit on it. How do you adjust the headlights? I found an adjustment under the hood but it doesn't move easily and i don't want to break it. Am i missing something?
Sorry, not trying to highjack here...
I was thinking about this thread this evening as I was driving along a dark section of rural highway. I really think my factory halogen lights are pretty good. Nobody was behind me, so I stopped to take a couple photos:
...
Were these taken with fog light on or off?
I have stock halogen with no fog lights. In the city/suburbs, I notice the street is much dimmer right in front of the truck than almost every vehicle that passes by. This would not be the case with fog lights on of course.
On a completely dark road with nobody around, seems to work just fine. Looking into the cheapest method to add either fog or driving lights.
Wife's been using the truck since first snow fall, her mustang does not like snow. She goes to work early in the mornings and has commented numerous times how bright the lights are, low beam and high beam. She doesn't use the fog lights, but I do and can see a notable difference in side lighting with and without them. Overall, I think they're pretty good. Did pick up some LED bulbs for the fog lights, hope to install them once the weather improves.
I have fog lights, but they were turned off. I almost never use them. They do a great job illuminating the pavement directly in front of the truck, which I'm not really concerned about. If I did more dark slow speed driving I might use them more.

Did you just get replacement bulbs, or did you get the Morimoto replacement assemblies?
I got the Morimotos. They are very bright, but you can't aim them like the stock incandescent fog lights. The stock fogs have a main beam of sorts, but they spill a lot of light outside the main beam. The Morimoto lights have a very, very "tight" beam, and I found that they need to be aimed a few degrees higher than the stock incandescent fog lights.
Mine has halogens, and I think they do a fine job.
I think the factory aligned "throw" of the low beams is off. The brights are insanely bright for a halogen.
I think the main issue, is that people buying these new F150s came from trucks with way less colors/brightness/distractions on the dash. Dimming the interior lights all the way down may help. just my $.02
I hadn't read the entire thread when I first saw this... so editing to reflect that
So I got a '16 F150 and want to get White/Amber, must I replace the whole housing or is there a way to swap it out? (and I see LED fog lights are possible).

Reason: replying based on my full reading of the thread
It all comes down to the constant increase in all the other light out there. Brighter streetlights, brighter headlights, LED tail lights that are practically blinding on some cars, etc. Take all that, then switch to a vehicle with a gigantic blue instrument cluster and mood lighting that blows out whatever night vision you still had, and suddenly your headlights are too dim. I'd bet good money that the halogen headlights are objectively just as bright as any they've made before, if not brighter.
On a related note - the police here have 'upgraded' their lights recently to super bright LEDs, and I almost hit a cop in an intersection the other day as a result. Black uniforms, at night, surrounded by super bright flashing blue strobes - not a good combination.
Glad I ain't the only one complaining about emergency lights being too damn bright; why in the name of visibility do they have to be so bright to blind drivers... they want to be visible which means safety??? You gotta be kidding me!
Everywhere I've been its been department policy that cops should be wearing OSHA ANSI-3 (I think?) safety vests when they are beyond their patrol cars or not dealing with a traffic stop (such as being in the middle of an intersection. Personally IMHO if they don't wanna wear safety vests, that is their own liability not yours but that's just my opiinion.
2013 F150 has factory Zenon HID headlights. They keep having issues and are exspensive to replace. Anyone know if the truck can be modified to take the standard LED headlight?

You’d have to look to ask in the 2009-2014 forum. Those HID setups can be complicated. Someone there may know how to rig it for regular or LED bulbs, or how to make them better. Just go to that forum and start a thread. This section is 2015-2020 and Ford didn’t put HIDs in these trucks.
