just coming back to close this out. Ended up being a ball joint, was the culprit. The stabilizer was bad to, which was probably contributing a little...

yeah my thought. I just got it, and it has little evidence of towing as the hitch isn't used and doesn't look like it went off road much. And its only been in a salt state for 2 years of its life.
But I think because of the run around they gave one, one BJ was bad like broke, and I think they went ahead and replaced the whole front end to make me happy.

Glad your problem is fixed, but in the future try to remember to exercise the 4X4 at least monthly. This helps lube all the internal 4X4 parts that are not moving in 2WD and seems to prolong the life of the front knuckle u-joints, you can also just lock the front hubs (auto to locked) and drive in 2WD for a few miles, it may save you some maintenance issues and money in the long run.
