Transmission slipping....

Hi Guys!
I haven't had any mayor problems with my truck for a long time, and I'm really happy for that.
I was running UC from Spartan for a while, but I've got a little bored of it, so I changed the tune to Hybrid Race a few days ago. I'm well aware that the transmission needs to go through the relearn process, so I always drive carefully after uploading a tune, and usually everything is fine on a second day. But not this time. The slipping between 3rd and 5th (4th) gear still there, and even worse, right at shifting it revs up like 4-500 rpm, then kicks into the gear so hard, that's not even funny. Than it shifts back and does it again one more time.
So I've thought something went wrong at uploading the program, so I changed it to a different tune.
Same symptom, and eventually the tow/haul light starts flashing, but no DTC on the computer.
I pulled in a big parking lot, and I went through the relearn strategy, and that was the time I noticed it. When I shift to Reverse, it has a 2 second delay, then with the foot on the brake I feel some pulsing from the tranny. It is actually strong enough to make the whole truck bounce slightly. Climbed under the truck ( emergency brake - shifter in Reverse ) and you can see the tranny bouncing.
And now, the wierdest thing I noticed. Checked the fluid level with cold and with hot engine , with off and with running engine too. When it's cold, the level is barely in the mark - so it's low, but in operating temp it shows that there is too much in it.
I really hope that some of you guys will have some comment to this issue, and we can figure out what could cause this.
Oh, wanted to mention that I'm not going to take my truck to the dealer, so please don't give me that advice. ( previous bad experience )
Worst case scenerio I'll go get a 5R110 tranny from Suncoast Diesel , but I really hope that I can save that $3500, and fix this transmission...

No-one guys?
Well, I turned my truck back to stock, wishing that it will take care of the problem.
It got worse!
The slipping between 3rd and 5th is horrible, the rpm shoots up to like 3-3500 rpm, then kicks in to 5th, than back to 3rd and gets stuck there with flashing tow/haul light.
In reverse it pulses/ shakes so bad, that I just want to NOT use the reverse at al, because I'm afraid the tranny will just drop on the ground.
Got an opinion that it might be some kind of hidraulic issue.
Or what else guys? Opinions?

Disconnect both batteries. This will reset the Keep Alive Memory (KAM.) I think it's learned itself into a hole and it can't find it's way out.

If that doesn't fix it, drop the pan and see what ya got in the bottom of the pan or on the magnet.

How many miles and have you ever serviced the tranny?

Well, disconnecting the batteries didn't help.
I actually finished at work today a little earlier, so I've had a chance to stop by an AAMCO transmission shop. Even though I hate to let anybody touch my truck, the slipping, stuck in 3rd gear, flashing tow light drove me to the decision to get a diagnostic on it.
Seems like that it is solenoid problem on the 5th gear, and I've got a reasonable estimate on replacing the solenoid, also replacing the PC-A solenoid, change fluid and filters and flush the transmission. They do a lot of warranty work for Ford, and the builder I talked to seemed like a really knowledgeable guy, so I decided to leave my truck there...
I'll be able to pick up my truck tomorrow at around lunch time, I'll keep you guys posted, and hopefully have good news. I'm going to drive my Jeep there, than I'll do a "hot test" on the tranny by towing the Jeep home.....we'll see.....

Make darn sure that they use Mercon SP fluid and don't accept any BS about equivelant fluids. There are non at this time. No offense but AAMCO doesn't give me a warm and fuzzy feeling!

None of the shops give me warm and fuzzy feelings either, but at this point I'm kind of out of options. I'm an engine, but not a transmission guy. I work about 10-12 hours a day, 6 days a week, so I'm a little short on time to drop my transmission, and study it, do it myself. I also have to drive forth and back to Stewart ( 400 MI trip ) from the beginnig of next week like 2 days a week, so I need my truck for that. I spent close to 2 hours there ( AAMCO ), asking all the questions , and the answers were actually satisfying, that's what lead me to "trust" them enough to do the work.
I did get the guy writing to my paperwork that " MERCON SP and MOTORCRAFT filter ONLY".... so ....keeping my fingers crossed....

If its just solenoids and not too late, do it yourself. I know you said you were short on time, but the only tool you need to swap them out is a pocket knife or small flat head screwdriver. It is really really easy to do.

I finally have to agree with dcaddi2, if he is working 10 to 12 hours a day 6 days a week you don't need the stress of hoping everything goes right and you have all the parts on your only day off and probably a Sunday at that where you are not going to find an OEM parts house open.

69cj you gonna say " I told you so". I didn't have a good experience with AAMCO today. After one coast/direct solenoid, one low/reverse solenoid and one press. control solenoid my truck acts just as it did before. Almost forgot to say that this and changing the fluid and filter cost $556.36. They were actually really "nice" , and they said they going to just tear that bill if I will let them rebuild my transmission. They "PROMISED" that it will be perfect, and they said I'll get 50k miles / 3 years warranty NATIONWIDE WARRANTY on it.
So ..... I told them that I don't need promises, I need proof , and so far they proved that they are not capable of working and fixing a torqueshift transmission. So the owner asked who else is better than them, who am I going to let doing the work.. I said for my truck it is probably me, who's the best, I'm going to drop and rebuild my tranny. Of coarse I've got a "cocky" ... "....and you think you can do that?" question. Well my answer was " as we are standing now, I can rebuild the transmission just as good as you could". And finally I said, if you can tell me the shifting sequence on the torqueshift, I'll let you do it. They didn't even hear that it's not using the 4th gear, and when I told them that it only works under cold conditions, etc.... they technically called me a dumb-*** to think that.
So I toke off with a really light pocket, and a still slipping transmission......
Not a good day, not a good experience...
And now, I'm here looking forward to rebuild my transmission. I will need your help guys more than ever before. I'm looking for GOOD, QUALITY parts, and I found the kits from Suncoast Transmission http://www.suncoastconverters.com/fo...d_product.html.
They offer Extreme Duty and Super Duty rebuild kits, I personally really like the second one.
I need "experts" to please look at it, and tell me what you think, please tell me what else I'm going to need, and if someone has a workshop manual for the ttransmission, and could spare it somehow, I'd really appreciate that.
Every and any advice is welcome, and also would like to have opinions about what should I do: should I dig into it, or just get a transmission shipped to my door. ( At this point the price is no object , whatever it cost, I'll go for it )

If it were me and money was no object, I would get an entire tranny shipped to your door from suncoast.

Well, here is what I did. I called Suncoast today, and I've had a chance to talk to the Ford tranny technician. I started to explain him my issue, and when I told him it's shifting fine 1-2-3 he took it over and said " and your engine revs up than it kicks into gear like you think it will just drop the transmission. I believe that you also have reverse problems."
"Yes" I said. "Well, your direct clutch is burned." What's the solution? Rebuild the transmission.
So I went ahead and ordered the Super Duty Rebuild kit from them.
http://www.suncoastconverters.com/fo...d_product.html

It includes everything but the hard parts ( gear train ).
I was thinking just to get the whole transmission, but since I have an other vehicle to go to work and back, and I love the challenge, I'll probably enjoy rebuilding my transmission. And than I'll know how it works, and will enjoy the truck even more, than before. I know it is not a shade mechanic thing, but so far I did everything ( all the mods ) myself, and I have no doubts that I'll be able to do it.
Last night I ordered the Service Overhaul Rebuild manual also , so I should be all set.

Thank you guys for all the advices, and I'll take pictures during the rebuild, and I'll put a write up together if anybody interested in the future rebuilding a 5r110.....
