Excessive oil consumption

So 831 miles ago I changed oil.

I used mobile 1 high mileage synthetic 5W20.
I put 7 quarts in so when it reached the full mark (6 qts) I would know exactly how much it uses.

After 831 miles oil level has not changed. Still a quart above full mark.

Maybe the high mileage oil is helping???

The high mileage oil is usually on the thicker end of the viscosity scale for the particular weight oil. They supposedly put some kind of seal conditioners in high mileage oil however I find it hard to believe they would do miracles for reducing consumption.

It seems to me that overfilling the crankcase could lead to excessive oil consumption in itself.

I am at a loss to explain this.

All I know is it has not used any noticeable amount of oil in 800 miles.

I will keep monitoring it. Maybe it starts using oil at a certain mileage.

On my two 2000 V10 trucks I always used 7 quarts to get it to the full mark.
