Pink Wire Help??? Question?

1972 Ford F100 Sport Custom - FE390 / C6 Automatic

I purchased the PerTronix Flame-Thrower Plug and Play Billet Distributors and MSD Blaster 2 Ignition Coils. I've read all the post about hooking up a 12v source from the ignition switch to coil.

I have the duraspark 2 ignition (blue collar) it had wires connecting to the old distributor by a 4 prong plug - two red. two black... Do I just ignore these connections and just put off to the side? I look at wiring diagrams, but I can't seem to make heads or tails out of it.

There was also mention about installing the new red wire (removing the pink wire). Does the red wire connect to the (I) solenoid brown wire to coil... Or just straight to the coil.

I'm just struggling with the wires that were originally hook to the dizzy, and what to do with them.

I realize I'm a noob... But I appreciate any help you may have to offer.

pink wire would be under dash from ignition switch. but if you are already running duraspark ignition it should be bypassed as you would only get 6v to the distributor with it.

Yeti - thanks for the quick response. I have read several of your post. Just to clarify. The wires from the duraspark should just be left out. Remove pink wire with a heavier gauge to the coil. Is the duraspark stock on 72 or was it added to the truck. I really didn't get any history about the truck. What does the duraspark ignition do? I'll read more post too.

Do you need to ground the dizzy. My new dizzy only has two wires (red/black) which go to the +/- sides of the coil.

Welcome to FTE!

If your truck has the blue tabbed electronic ignition module then someone has already converted it to electronic ignition. There is no points in the Dizzy to replace. Send that pertronix back for a refund.

Duraspark is Fords electronic ignition, was a good system too. Your truck was converted by po from points and 6v distributor. The pink wire would have to be gone already or it wouldn't be running. I changed an 84 Bronco II to Duraspark but can't remember how many wires there were. To hook up Petronix use the red to + side and black to -side of coil. Ignition should be hooked up toe + side of coil too I believe.....again don't worry about pink wire since Duraspark used 12v.

Appreciate the input. Sorry for the stupid question about duraspark ignition. This is my first time to work on a vehicle by myself. Kind of thought this truck was stock. Guess I have lots to learn. My old dizzy is looking pretty bad, and the new pertonix unit is to nice looking to return so I think I'll keep the petronix and just bypass the duraspark. Running straight from the 12v ignition.

I'll post back this weekend on my results... Thanks.
