292 Yblock converted 6V to 12V.
Wiring is a mess and tough to trace which I will address in the near future, but for now I wanted to install the pertronix ignitor and have a couple questions.
Currently there are two wires on the positive side of the coil one comes from a
voltage reducer (I assume from ignition) the other not sure. There is one ground wire from distributor to neg side of coil. The new ignition has a red and black wire (red to + and black to - on coil per directions)
Should I end up with 3 wires connected to + side of coil.
Any help or explanation would be greatly appreciated.
Thank you
Jason
Likely the wires are:
-- wire coming from ballast resistor is the "run" power feed from the ignition switch
-- the other wire may be coming from the "I" terminal on a 4-terminal starter solenoid. It bypasses the ballast during cranking to give a hotter spark for quicker starting. If you have a 3-terminal solenoid, then it could be for a tach or something else.
I believe with Pertronix you don't use a ballast or the bypass feed, but you should have gotten instructions with the system, or can find them on the internet.
Suggest that you use the Pertronix Flamethrower coil. Then you will need no ballast resistor. You will be much more satisfied with the results. Also I assume that you now have a negative ground?
2X Pete! I'm using a Ignitor and Flamethrower III. Could call on the ground change too. Sometimes we (56ers) take these things for granted but the 53-55 folks are not negative ground from the factory.
