I bought the pro comp hei distributor for my 1986 ford f 250 with the 460 engine. The stock distributor had three wires that hooked up to the ignition switch(purple, orange and black wire) and the ignition coil has the tac wire, pos wire and a ground. I put the tac wire and red positive wire on the pro comp distributor. My question is where do i put the three original wires that go on the distributor. Purple orange and black wire? Do I just ground the black wire and splice the orange and purple wires on the positive red wire that goes to the procomp distributor hei ignition coil and ground the other black wire that originally went to the ignition coil?
Not sure. I moved my aunt in my house and she threw away a lot of boxes. The distributor was pla,ced somewhere from where I had it. I looked on the internet and forums to find instructions and little info was out there. I appreciate the information guys.
If it's the type with the coil mounted in the top middle of the cap, then it probably only needs one hot wire to run it. It will need another wire if you have a tach just to make the tach work.
