Lund Visor Mounting

Hey all,

As it gets closer to winter break, I start thinking about working on my truck instead of studying finals. I was hoping to put on the Lund Visor that I have laying around while I'm home and what I'm wondering is the best way to mount it so that it's watertight. Bolts and rubber washers?

Thanks
Jameson

And use some silicone on the screws when you install them

Yes use lots of quality grade silicone on both sides of the stainless steel allen head bolts. Rubber washers on both sides (bolt head and nut side) and then more silicone and self locking nuts, sounds like a good idea too.

Still a great way to rust out your A pillar, drip rail area, door hinge mount area and rocker panel area if done wrong.

If I were to install a visor, I'd use Nutserts (threaded rivets), stainless steel machine screws, 3M Window Weld polyurethane sealant, non-hardening strip caulk, and UV stable rubber washers.

If you think the visor caused that rust, just look at this truck with NO VISOR

I've mounted a ton of these alone and find that sitting it in place on the roof, evenly spaced from side to side then taping w/masking tape temporarily is a good start.Mark the holes to be drilled with a marker through the visor holes onto the roof. Remove the visor and carefully drill the holes to the proper size that correspond to the supplied(IF supplied) self tapping screws. Put a dab of good silicone(at least the size of a nickel)) over each drilled hole and carefully set the visor over the holes and start each screw trying not to disturb the sealant.
Hio's idea of nutserts is a GOOD idea as the visor has to be removed if changing the windshield etc. (you know if a windshield gets replaced today you will get nailed with another rock next week!) The self tapping screws are generally a 1 time in and out deal & then the holes are kind of hogged out meaning new and larger holes and self tappers next time installed..Nutserts in the roof and a 1/4 or 5/16 bolts is a nice way to go if you can. Good Luck! Gary

Quick question regarding the nutserts; How do they themselves attach to the metal? Is it a press fit? Weld in?

Thanks

They are like a fancy, industrial molly anchor.

I think a coating of a good epoxy sealant to the outside of the nutsert would seal the hole real well.
