I have a Roof Visor and recently began hearing it vibrate during speeds over 70kph.
I popped the rubber caps of the bolts and tightened them down but noted some just twist and donnot cinch down anymore.
Can these roof plugs or whatever they are called be replaced and how is that done?
I just removed a visor off one of our work trucks because the holes were rotted out and it was ready to rip off on the hwy. Two rust holes were 4" in diameter and two were 1.5". There were only 4 bolts left holding it on.
if the bolts are just turning I would bet you have some rust under the visor.
If those things are fastened like the luggage racks on the mid-70's Volare/Aspen station wagons, the threads are riv-nuts as used on some larger aircraft de-ice boots. They are made of aluminum and are compatible with the aluminum airplane. When they are installed in a steel roof one or the other is going to be subject to galvanic (dissimilar metal) corrosion, like a small battery. That would give you the rust-out problem. If you have trouble getting the screws loose, try wedging a blade (knife, scraper, etc.) under the flange of the riv-nut. Sometimes that will hold it enough to back out the screw. Good luck, I may have the same problem.
