Just picked up a 2001 F150 SC 4x4 with a 5.4.
I'm no stranger to spinning wrenches (my other ride is a '77 Jeep CJ5) but this is my first Ford of this vintage. It has a few small issues but overall seems pretty solid for being 14 years old and having 202k on the ticker. I'm looking forward to helping out, where I can, in this forum and no doubt, I'll be asking plenty of questions about my new ride.
Crappy pic, taken in the dark but it's all I have, for now.
Thanks!
In the less than 24 hours that I've owned it, I fixed a few lights that weren't working, replaced the headlight bulbs with Silverstar Ultras, replaced the missing headlight ****, and fixed my non-op power mirrors.
Still to come is lining the bed (I'm the operations manager for a performance polyurea coating company), line the rockers from the trim down, apply a clear polyurea leading edge protection to the hood, remove the huge brush guard, replace the headlight housings with aftermarket ones, LED tail lights, new wheels and tires (285s), and more as time goes by.
The 5.4 is absolutely silent. No trace of the infamous timing chain rattle or cam phaser tick. So far, I'm very happy with the new acquisition.
A couple of daylight pics...

Reason: Forgot the pics
Last I knew the cam phaser take issue is not for this truck.
Try these and the fogs. Much cheaper now. Work great with the brightest sylvania bulbs. No conversion kits or electrical stuff. Plug and play. Compliments all the time.

Good to know, about the cam phasers. The Triton engines are new territory, for me. I'm much more familiar with the Windsor small blocks.
For headlights, I have my eye on these...
So far, I love the truck. I changed the rear diff oil, this afternoon. In doing so, I discovered that the axle code on the door jam is wrong. It does have 3.55s but does not have a LS. (H9 code)
I also have new u-joints for the rear shaft that I was going to install this weekend but those plans have been delayed. Instead I get to change the plugs, due to it developing a cyl #4 misfire, yesterday afternoon.
rsylvstr, thanks for the tip.
I've also done more research and found that the headlights I was looking at are junk. I'm now looking at the Lightning style replacements made by Depo. Not sure that I want to go to the trouble of the retrofit, though.
I'm referring to an HID projector retrofit. After seeing the results, I may just do it.... down the road. I do a lot of night driving, so lighting is a very important consideration, for me.
