If you have a Scan Guage or TorquePro Program in the EVM and EVD values and watch them together. EVM is what the PCM wants, EVD is the feedback from the valve showing the position. They should be very close. That will at least tell you if the EGR valve is working.

Typically if the EVD is out of whack it will throw a check engine light which it doesn't sound like you're getting?

Ok thanks I will check them on the Torque Pro tonight.
No CEL as of right now. It didn't have one when the egr was out either but it did show an error when I used the Torque Pro to check the egr. Smog station showed
EGR not ready, OBDII VV. The smog tech asked if I had disconnected the battery recently. I told him I had not and he said to take it to a mechanic and then drive it for 75 miles before he can recheck it.

I'm getting more confused
That's what I explained in post 8. Fords have some of the biggest pain in the **** drive cycles out there. In most cases you need a fuel tank of fuel over a 1/2 tank. Also drive it at highway speeds for a time frame and 5 or more accelerations from 45 to 55 and blah blah blah. It's a pain.
Until the pcm sees all these conditions it won't "Ready" all of the emission monitors.
In short, drive it some highway and some town driving with over 1/2 tank. DO NOT DISCONNECT BATTERIES or it starts all over.

Here's an excerpt from California's smog test guide page 2.

Also here's the drive cycle to have the monitor go "Ready ".

Ford Truck 6.0 Liter Diesel Engine Drive Cycle

1. Turn the ignition on, but do not start the engine until the WAIT TO START indicator turns off, or 10 seconds has passed.

2. Start your truck's engine. Allow the engine to idle. Ensure the transmission is in Park or Neutral. Idle the engine for 40 seconds. Before proceeding, turn all accessories off and disengage TOW/HAUL (if equipped).

3. Begin driving... accelerate steadily to 3rd gear (A/T) or 4th gear (M/T) and keep the engine RPM at 1500 RPM for 3 seconds. Continue by accelerating steadily from 35 MPH to 65 MPH in about 15 seconds (A/T) or 11 seconds minimum (M/T). Repeat this procedure three times while maintaining conditions set in this step. The following conditions must be followed to run OBD-II monitors that require the engine to be under a load, one of which is the EGR monitor.*

4. The driving portion of the drive cycle is now complete. Stop vehicle and allow the engine to idle for 20 seconds in Park or Neutral. Turn the ignition off. Start engine and allow engine to idle for 40 seconds in Park or Neutral. Drive cycle is complete. Turn off the ignition and do not start the engine for 30 minutes; while the ECU is performing additional self-tests.

Thanks 87crewdually
I did the procedure today and drive mellow to work and back. I can tell something changed as the turbo stopped spooling up at idle. I am going to drive it 1 more day to work then, back to the smog shop for a test.

Wish me luck!
