Scrap the superduty and get a manual transmission 7.3 IDI with solid axles and a crew cab. No issues with EMP or electronics to go wrong. Sure its not new or fancy but its sure to get you there.

I can tell by the answers most of them dont actually prep. Of they like to think they have prepped enough. The problem with your question is that there is no right or wrong answer. Your question is to broad. You have to decide what you are prepping for. Weather it be EMP, Natural Disaster, Mass Civil Unrest, Economic Collapse, Invasion, etc. You can't prep for everything but you can be as prepared for most situations. You also have to be realistic with your choices. When I lived in the city bugging out was plan A. I had a cap on my truck that way I could toss everything in the back and get out quick but I also had a place to sleep and keep dry without being stuck in the cab all the time. Now that I live in the country I got rid of the bed cap and have an Undercover Tonneau Cover because bugging out is not my first plan of action. I still have a plan if it comes down to that but its not my first plan anymore.

That being said there are some things that have been mentioned that you can do to your truck to better prepare it for when SHTF. First and foremost is maintenance. Always keep up on the maintenance. Keep oil changed, keep fluids topped off, tires good, etc. The next thing you can do is add a way to carry extra fuel. Other things are 2 spare tires, vehicle recovery equipment, extra commonly worn out parts, filters, and fluids. Do things to your truck that will help you now and when you have to bug out, not just because they look cool (I have a bad habit of doing this). A brush guard will help with pushing things out of the way along with keeping deer from crushing the front of your truck when you hit them at 60mph while your driving home from work at 12:30 in the morning... Better flowing exhaust, air intake systems or mods, things to increase your MPG.
Hope it helps, feel free to PM me if you have any prepping questions.

I'd just skip the Super Duty and purchase a surplus M-35 multi-fuel duece-and-a-half. It'll get you there, just not real fast, It'll haul more, and run on dang near any fuel that burns and has a little lubricity.

Or, get a Gamma Goat. Those will even float.

Air compressor and tank. A slide in camper or a fifth wheel set up. Extra fuel storage. A generator. Tools and knowledge to repair all of that I mentioned.

It probably depends on what your plans are with the truck. Prepping as it is called these days has become a multi million dollar industry with people selling everything from preserved food to underground bunkers. I have read some preppers websites out of curiosity and find some real amusing stuff there. People include in their buggout bags things like GPS units, radios, and other common conveniences.
Are you planning on going nomadic and driving the truck around, are you planning on using the truck to get you to a secure location? Are you planning on using the truck to go gather resources? I would say keep it very simple. The more gadgets you have the more you open yourself to problems. The important fluids will be a major issue. Fuel, oil, antifreeze, transmission fluid will be hard to get. If it is social collapse or total global destruction how easy will it be to stop at a gas station and fuel up. Then how much fuel is needed? A friend of mine back in the '80's used his pickup for commercial hauling. He put an extra 300 gallon fuel tank in the box and plumbed it in so he never had to stop for fuel. Another thing to consider is tires and air for the tires. If you blow a tire it won't matter how much fuel you have with you. What else is necessary? A generator? Tools? Spare parts? I would say it just comes down to how long are you planning for and how far are you going?

Buy the original in off-road transportation. Justify owning a Super Duty to haul the pets around until then.

As bad as I hate those blamed things for a societal breakdown horses would be hard to beat. Fuel would be hard to come by, but grass would not.

I like it!

But I also keep my travel trailer loaded and ready to go.

Go to the RV websites and read some post by full time boondockers. Lot of good info out there on how to set up a rig for off the grid living.
