What do you do with it? Is there supposed to be a hanger under the bed? Hoping for a better option than just leaving in the bed. I was at my grandparents house thanksgiving and looked at the barn where my truck lived.....I saw a tire bar hanging on the wall. The kind that went underneath a vehicle. I asked my dad if he knew if it went to my truck and he said he thought it did. If it does then I am missing some important parts to hang it.....just wondering what everyone else does.
It's a great place for a spare until you need it. You have to lay in the mud on the way to your wedding in a rented tux to fight the rusted on bolt and get it down only to find it too is flat. And on 4x4s they get tore off. Ford made a bracket to bolt it upright in the truck bed, much better.
Parts are missing because the bolt rusted up rendering it no longer of use and since the tire was mounted during assembly before the bed was, the other bolt can't come all the way out, torch time.
I had left mine at home when I got divorced 7 yrs ago........had to come up with another and hate leaving it sliding around the bed. Like the HIO version but hate to cut my bed now that I sprayed liner in it.....thought about making a bracket out of a piece of flat and a couple of bolts........
Had to drop my spare 2 times in 30+ yrs. the last time last yr. Well, I lower it and could not get it pulled out due to a bad back. So did the next best thing. Lucky I remembered to bring my cell and called AAA road service 40 minutes later and still made my Doc appointment at the VA
I do carry a big can of fix a flat but found the valve stem leaking from dry rotted.
I always run steel but the Azz holes who installed my tires removed them and put in rubber. That I did not know unit the next day. And returned the next day to B-ch
they said they don't sell or have any of them. I guess the rubber lasted about 5yrs.
I think the heavy stem caps had something to do with it as it only leaked when pulling down on it and I was doing about 70 when a *** end swayed around. I was able to pull over right a way and did not mess up the tire or the aluminum wheel. I do have steel stems again in all 4 wheels tho.
The good & bad of fix a flat in a can. I had a flat tire in my car and aired the tire up with the onboard air supply from the truck. Made it to the tire shop. Ah got it fixed the next day the thing was flat again. This was now a Saturday morning and the wife & me were going to breakfast then to the loco flea market. So I get out an old can of fix a flat about half going in and it stops no more air left in it. The tire still half flat so get my other can and get it up enough to drive over to my truck and finish airing it up good to max psi. I got on the freeway and got the speed up to coat in side good.
Well now days later I noticed a shimmy at about 65-70mph now that won't go away. I returned to the tire shop told them what had happed after 3 a temps to balancing it.
That old can of fit a flat went in and stayed in one spot causing a balancing problem at high speeds. The fix was $183.00 So if you have a old can of that stuff replace it as it may have lost some of it's air to push all the sealer in. I don't know if it just did not mix with the newer stuff I put in afterwards or not.

I'm not sure if that stuff is designed for high speed use (60mph). I know it says not for use in motorcycles. Back in the day- My brother had a 55 gal drum of that stuff and he put it in his R*M truck tires. He came back from a test drive, and said "This thing feels like it has square tires now". It wasn't much fun scraping and wiping out all 4 tires & rims. Turned out to be a 12 pack night.
I'd say a little bit is better then too much. As I'd had to use it before with out any problems, but this last time was in January of last yr. may be in the low to high 40-50s that time of yr. Oh well lesson learned. And all from the tires shops not fixing the flat correctly the day before.

I had a buddy that ran a tire shop, he would cuss like a sailor and tell you where to go if it had fix a flat in it. He would usually ask before he got started...lol. Guess that is why he never had much pocket change.
I have looked at some brackets and am going to fab one out of some angle myself. will at least get it in between tire hump and front of bed. Going to have to paint that rim now that it will be on display. Hope none of my neighbors sees me with my paint gun and turns me in to the feds.....

Hmm with now some of the Democrats in higher places a Gun is Gun, Better lay low for a while and let things cool off until bringing out the gun.
It may be someday that any email massages having the words GUN in it will Alert the Feds so we'll see
Orich.
Ps don't forget to have the valve stem facing outwards or down so you can add air if needed.
