The spare tire for my truck is just thrown in the bed right now. Under the bed where it should go, I have a cross bar, but no idea what else I need, or that I'm missing anything.
Does anyone here have a good picture of how the tire mounts, and what a good source is to get any parts I might be missing? Where would the jack, etc be stored?
THe jack and handle are probably stored under the hood in the engine compartment. At least in my 94 F250 they are. My jack is mounted along the passenger side of the engine compartment in a cutout above the wheel well and infront of the AC system and the handle is across the front of the engine bay on top of the radiator sheetmetal.
The tire mount has a crossbar, a plastic cone and a "q" shape handle. The plastic cone fits inside the hole on the tire and screws into a stud on the crossbar. I almost threw mine away when I bought my truck since the dealer had just thrown it in the bed of the truck and I didn't know what it was. It keeps the tire from "floating" around on the crossbar. The "q" is what holds the crossbar in place and must be unscrewed to lower the tire. WHAT A BEACH THIS JOB IS. I would kill the Ford engineer who thought up this clever idea. Nothing like laying on your back unscrewing this pos for 15 minutes with traffic wizzing at 65mph 2 feet from your legs.
I am trying to put some pictures in the post to show the jack and tire mount. I assume they are similar on your model year, but don't know.
Nope sorry, Can't seem to find the feature. WIll try again later.
Thanks, that LMC site was good. Ordered the cone and center bolt. I have the cross bar and bolts on both ends of that. With their diagram was able to see what I was missing!
